Spry Validation Fields

When I set up my spry validation fields it puts it on one line "First Name [ ]" then the space for the error message to the right. My customer wants to have the "Required" message display below the box (which I did just using a line break) but he wants to put the "last name" box the right of it. I'm having trouble modifying the CSS to get the first name to float left. It does it, but then displays wrong in the browser. Then he wants City, State, Zip on the same line, etc. Is there an easy way to do this?

I'm contemplating tables at this point.

Either way is doable. Is the "Required" message displayed before or after validation?

after validation. Then the "required" will display beneath it which I've accomplished with a line break. Just having trouble getting them to display side by side.

Personally I would popup a positioned(absolute) div. Clicking the erroneous input would remove the warning.
