    Image Links broken in IE 8, fine in every other browser

    so, I have some links on some image buttons at the top of the page, an example for the button code in the page is

    <div id="header"><a href="http://www.xyz.com">XYZ website</a></div>

    and the CSS code is

    #header a {
    background:url(../images/sitelogo.png) no-repeat top left;
    height:93px;
    width: 443px;
    display: block;
    text-indent: -9999px;
    margin-left:20px;
    /margin-left:40px; /* for IE */
    }

    this works perfect in ever single browser but IE 8. They buttons show, but the links are not clickable. This is pretty standard code and I do similar code for coding buttons all over the page. But a few at the top of the site do not work??

    further proof of why this is some odd IE8 issue is that if I use

    <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7">

    to trick IE8 to emulate like IE7, the links work perfect??

    Works for me.
    Perhaps a different technique would be more accessible: http://css-tricks.com/css-image-replacement/

    sorry.. I am missing your intended point? maybe my title "image links" confused you?

    my issue is not the images showing up, the images always show up perfect, the issue is the <a href> links tied to the images (1) work perfect on all other browsers (2) work perfect on ever other location on the page BUT in IE8 there are 4 that do not, while elsewhere on the page, 10 other using similar method work just fine. how is that even possible.

    as well, tell IE8 to emulate IE7 and everything works perfect.

    that is odd...
