    resolved [RESOLVED] AJAX on IE not Working (Microsoft ActiveX)

    I'm new to AJAX, and I've created a little app that searces through a database of people dynamically as the user types. It seems to be working fine in Firefox, Opera, Chrome, Iceweasel, and a number of other browsers on Windows, Linux and Mac, but I can't seem to get it working with IE.

    I've posted my code for creating the XMLHttpRequest object below. What am I doing wrong?
    function getHTTPObject() {
    	if (typeof XMLHttpRequest != 'undefined') {
    		return new XMLHttpRequest();
    	try {
    		return new ActiveXObject("Msxm12.XMLHTTP");
    	} catch (e) {
    		try {
    			return new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
    		} catch (e) { }
    	return false;
