    Tables Explorer Vs Firefox

I have a site that displays properly in Firefox, but not in explorer. I have, simplified, to columns, each with 3 rows. The first column, the first 2 rows are connected, while the second column, the bottom two rows are connected. Explorer is stretching the top cell of column 2 to make it line up with the rowspan on column one. How do I get it to stop?

    Thanks
