Smile How do I find out what CMS this website is using?

    Hi,

How do I find out what CMS this website http://pattaya-times.com is using? I like the Themes and functionality and would like to use the same CMS on my own site.

    Any suggestions?
I know for a fact its not Drupal for several reasons, the simple test being example.com/user gives a No Page Found error. And of course a million other reasons. Even try with Wordpress, the default login is /wp-login.php gives a No Page Found error.

I found this website is using ...
Articles: charater "a" with number + rest other url content for Articles e.g. website.com/a5170- ....
Categories: charater "c" with number + rest other url content for Categories e.g. website.com/c14012- ....
Tags: charater "t" with number + rest other url content for Tag e.g. website.com/a723-thailand
    ...
Can anyone help me out? Thanks.

    You need Wappalyzer.https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10229

It's a Firefox addon that tells you what CMS was used for the page you are visiting.

You may find that its not using a CMS at all and could simply be made by their own developers or a paid for developer. Half of whats in a CMS you can get for your site anyway (rss feeds/reader - search functions - member login - articles etc )

However. Several sites I know dont necessarily run their wordpress where you'd think, it maybe site.com/folder/wp or even site.com/file/path/to/wp

So just by looking for those files you may not have much luck.

It's interesting, how many websites use custom cms. I mean what's the proportion of websites on some popular cms and websites on a custom cms.

Dunno the portion but I know of a few large scale sites which will have their own - mostly here in the uk things that come to mind are places like the bbc, channel 4 all the big tv channels. They can afford to make theirs 100% unique and 100% flexible to their own needs without the limitations of the free every day ones.

To be honest to the OP, I always feel a little queasy when I'm asked to recreate a site, it jsut makes me feel like I'm ripping someones design. Go for their functionaity sure (well not the site you showed personally its too cluttered ) but theres plenty of ways you can manipulate the CMS's out there to make your site very personal.

You can visit the sirce of the site to get an idea about what they are using. However there are some small techniques that you are well aware of... That is about .php and .aspx The sites are built with php or asp if their urls end in such a manner. However there are some sites that will help you in finding out the cms, (content management system), framework and technology of a website that they are using...

If you don't want to install an app or add-on, you can just visit:

    http://BuiltWith.com

That does a pretty good job of analyzing most sites and will reveal if it is using a standard CMS.
