    Need help positioning this

    I have this css:
    Code:
    #right-colButton{
    	width: 50px;
    	background-color: #B9BDC6;
    	overflow: hidden;

    }

    #right-col{
    	position:relative;
    	width: 287px;
    	background-color: #B9BDC6;
    	float: right;
    	overflow: hidden;
    	display: none;
    	z-index: 5000;
    }
    It basically makes a menu pop out (right col) via some JS. I want the menu to be placed over the existing content on the page when it is opened.

    Currently when the menu pops open, it pushes all the content of the page down even though the z index is set to 5000... WHY is this??

    I can make it work when floated to the left, but when i float it to the right it doesnt work.... How can I make this work?

    by hosting is in the process of being switched so i cant show ya a working page.... im sure someone know css here very well though... THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR THE HELP!!!!

    ok i did some changes and this is what I have:
    Code:
    #menu {
    	float: right;
    	height: auto;
    	width: 50px;
    	font-size: 0.9em;
    }

    #right-colButton{
    	width: 50px;
    	background-color: #B9BDC6;
    	overflow: hidden;
    }

    #right-col{
    	position:absolute;
    	width: 287px;
    	float: left;
    	background-color: #B9BDC6;
    	overflow: hidden;
    	display: none;
    	z-index: 5000;
    }
    Basically the pop out pops out how its supposed to now except that it pops to the right.... on a right aligned div that makes it go off the screen....

    I want it to pop out to the left...

    I will get a link up as soon as I can but my host is updating my files... hopefully someone can help me out in the meantime.
