Here's an orginal thought, produce some decent content for your site, link back to your site with it and promote that content. Good content can get others linking to you automatically without your efforts. I have articles that have been picked up by other sites written a year ago.

I am sure you have got plenty of suggestions about backlinks. I would recommend you to concentrate on the quality of the backlinks too. I was reading another thread in which a guy has created 400k backlinks but the page rank is still one. While doing the forum posting, make sure that you are creating backlinks on relevant pages and it must be a quality page. Do not try to create thousands of backlinks in a day or two. Be patient and try to work slowly and steadily, you will get to see the results.

Hi Deniel. I don't think social networking would help a lot in link-building because most of SN's are nofollow.
I would suggest social-bookmaking, blog posting and article writing.
