Apache won't start on my XAMPP

    Hi,

I'm running XAMPP on my vista PC. I downloaded XAMPP with a zip file instead of the installer. It's located on my desktop. Never ran it before.

So I'm trying to start apache. Won't start. I changed my skype port so that's no more conflict. It says all the ports are free under port check.

    My error log shows :

httpd.exe: Syntax error on line 35 of C:/Users/Bob/Downloads/xampp-win32-1.7.3/xampp/apache/conf/httpd.conf: ServerRoot must be a valid directory
httpd.exe: Syntax error on line 35 of C:/Users/Bob/Downloads/xampp-win32-1.7.3/xampp/apache/conf/httpd.conf: ServerRoot must be a valid directory

    Any suggestions?

I'm also running XAMPP on a Vista Home Premium PC.

    1) I downloaded my XAMPP zip file from apache friends

    2) I unzipped it to the root folder on my D: drive, but it can be any drive and any folder "in theory"

    3) ran setup_xampp.bat and followed the prompts to confifure my XAMPP

    4) ran xampp_start.exe in the XAMPP root folder and it started Apache, MySql. They and PHP work fine

There is a readme.txt in the xampp root folder with instructions on how to install and configure xampp. It should be straight forward.
