Is there a good free screen capture recorder out there?

I need to video record my screen and actions. Is there a free software program that does this, performs well, and will not expire?

Windows Media Encoder... free, does a great job on screen captures.
I'm really a Flash guy but the Flash Media Live Encoder cannot do screen capture so I still use the Windows version, capture at a very high res (have data to throw away during the transcode), then transcode to Flash for on-line tutorials I do for my clients. Get it here:

I would try CamStudio is is decent for capturing video from your screen. Google it you should find it. I always love open source software, i hate paying for something and have to buy upgrades or the new version.
