    asp.net or something else?

Sorry to post such a basic question, but in the not-too-distant future I'd like to open up my website to the public, meaning I'd like to allow users to post writings on pre-made forms which I will supply. Maybe I'll have them set up password-protected accounts to do so, I haven't decided yet. Question is, what is the best (read: easiest, most reliable) way for a novice like me to do this. I know html, css, am learning javascript, but I know next to nothing about server-side programming. Is asp.net the best way to go, or php? Once again, sorry for such a broad question. I'm still learning.

That's like asking "what do you want to be when you grow up?" If you ask a plumber, he will say be a plumber.
