    MM_openBrWindow not working in IE8

    HTML Code:
          <a href="b_menu1.htm" title="Baby Menu: Week 1" target="_blank" class="clickfor" onclick="MM_openBrWindow('b_menu1.htm','Baby Menu Week 1','resizable=no, width=700, height=550');return false">Baby Menu: Week 1</a><br />
    This works perfectly in Opera, Chrome and Firefox but IE doesn't size the new window. Instead, it opens in a full-size window thus obliterating the base page. Also, I'm using on_blur to close the window when it loses focus and IE (only) annoyingly pops up a query box asking for confirmation.

    Would appreciate any advice on this please?

    Is there a limit on dimensions for a pop up window. I notice that if I get a bit too big then Opera ignores the dimensions given as well.

    Hi there oldcelt,

    and a warm welcome to these forums.

    The cause of your problem is this...
    Baby Menu Week 1
    If you change it to...
    BabyMenuWeek1 or Baby_Menu_Week_1
    ...then IE will behave.

    When coding you should avoid spacing like the plague.

    Hi coothead

    Thanks for your welcome and the prompt reply - must have had my brain in neutral this week. So many times in the past I've fallen for that one - should know better by now.

    Oh, BTW, any thoughts on why Opera gives up when dimensions get beyond about 700px x 600px?

    Hi there oldcelt,

    I have found no problems with my Opera's pop-up dimensions.

    Try this example in your Opera....
    Code:

    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN"
       "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd">
    <html lang="en">
    <head>

    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
    <meta name="language" content="english">
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Style-Type" content="text/css">
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Script-Type" content="text/javascript">

    <title>basic popup window</title>

    <style type="text/css">

    #container li {
        padding:10px 0;
     }
    #container a  {
        font-family:verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif;
        font-size:16px;
        color:#000;
     }
    #container a:hover {
        color:#f96;
     }
    </style>

    <script type="text/javascript">

    function mypopup() {

      var mywindow;
      var w=800;
      var h=600;
      var l=(screen.width-w)/2;
      var t=(screen.height-h)/2;
      var features='width='+w+',height='+h+',left='+l+',top='+t+',scrollbars=yes';
      var lnk=document.getElementById('container').getElementsByTagName('a');

    for(c=0;c<lnk.length;c++) {
       lnk[c].onclick=function() {
    if(mywindow) {
       mywindow.close();
     }
       mywindow=window.open(this.href,'myNameHere',features);
       mywindow.focus();
       return false;
       }
      }
     }

    if(window.addEventListener){
       window.addEventListener('load',mypopup,false);
    }
    else {
    if(window.attachEvent){
       window.attachEvent('onload',mypopup);
      }
     }
    </script>

    </head>
    <body>

    <ul id="container">
     <li><a href="http://www.google.com">google</a></li>
     <li><a href="http://www.webdeveloper.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1111081&postcount=4">oldcelt's Opera question</a></li>
     <li><a href="http://www.w3c.org">w3c.org</a></li>
     <li><a href="http://www.w3schools.com">w3schools</a></li>
    </ul>

    </body>
    </html>

    ...which gives 800x600 internal dimensions in my Opera.

    Hey, thanks for going to so much trouble - looks like the title spaces were affecting Opera as well 'cos my own pages now behave properly. (I did try your code - TVM). Strange that Opera popups worked ok 'till a certain size was reached!

    I'm using onBlur="window.close()" which works on all browsers except Firefox which leaves the opened window on screen behind the main browser page when focus is lost. Do you know of a cure for this by any chance - I have to admit I haven't done a search
