Style Active/Selected menu-item(link)?

Hi!
I have for some time wondered whats the best approach for styleing a selected/active menuitem, which in this case whould be a link(<a>)
..and by selected/active I meen after the user has pressed the link and the "new" page has been rendered..so to put it simple...I need a way to mark which menuitem the user is currently browseing by changeing that menuitems css...
Any suggestions?
