I'm not sure where this question should go, so I'll start it here.

After Apache has authenticated a user, how can I get that information back to the browser and use it to customise the page.
(Something as simple as putting "Hello Joe!" at the top of the page.

I know I can retrieve the REMOTE_USER environment variable inside a Perl script, but how can I get the information into a simple HTML page and use Javascript to do the customisation.

Is this even possible?

Thanks.

N.B The Apache server is on a UNIX box, with Perl as the cgi-bin language.)
