MySQL error

Hello all
Ive recently uploaded a php site online but I keep receiving this error

Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)

The site is hosted on a unix package which ive never used before and Im lost.

Could someone point me in the right direction?

The best path to a resolution is to contact the tech support of the hosting company, give them that error, and have them help you hammer this thing out. I'm not familiar with networking, much less SOCK configuration, but the error message indicates that it's a SOCK issue.
