As an artist I rely heavily on image searches for traffic to my website. My home page is dominated by an image I'm thinking of changing as it isn't doing well where it should be although the page it's on is.
If this image was gently animated by using a gif made of three files would that give three images for the search engines to find or does their consolidation to make an animated GIF get seen as one image by the search engine?
Images and animations are not read by search engine crawlers. This is why it is always recommended to use alt image tags for your images. I dont think, it is going to make much difference if you will make changes in those images. Website having lots of images or heavy animation can never rank very well as compare to similar kind of website having text.
Hi Joe
Thanks for this, I've been doing some research and found this out. Glad I always did plenty of text an keywords to help my images/website on it's travels.
I know plenty of Artists who put next no text let alone ALT (which I've always done) with their images.
That is great. You may promote your website by adding your images and website link on high PR image sharing sites such as flickr.com, imageshack.us etc. It will help you to get more views of your images.
