Information needed from hardware level to s/w level to build website.

Hello All,
I don't know where I should post this query as it does not fit in any community.


So here is the question. I have to develop and intranet web site.
I have been told that we will get dedicated server for it and thats all the information I have till now.

I been asked to give list of information I would need to start of the project.

I am not much aware about the hardware details. Can anyone please tell me what details about the server and other details needed to kick start the project?

are you planning to develop your intranet site using commercial or open-source? coz what you will need is depend on what type of resource you choose

Yes I am building intranet website. I haven't chosen the technology till now. that's to be decided. I was interested in knowing the hardware and software req needed for server first.
Then we will decide which web server we will use, and what technology is to be used.

This is what my understanding is.
Please guide me if I am wrong.

for open-source

Server: Apache Server
Database Server: Mysql
Language: PHP

for non open-source like Microsoft

Operating System: Windows
Server: IIS
Database: MSSQL
Language C# or VB (.net frameworks)
