disabling css elements using javascript possible?

I'm using css3 transitions to modify block elements of a certain class on hover, and certain elements of that class I want to disable the :hover, or atleast override the animation. Just looking to see if that's possible because I haven't seen it anywhere online.

I found a workaround for what I'm trying to do, combining the :not pseudo-class with the :hover, but if anyone happens to know the answer to the post I'm still curious

Why don't you simply change the class with JavaScript?
