    New to Objects - Reference Issue

    Iím working on rebuilding a JavaScript based card game using objects to significantly reduce my database calls. The core of the rebuild is creating 20-50 objects per game each of which correspond to a card id named something like card1, card2, etc. Each object would have 20-40 properties, I havenít quite decided on the final number yet.

    The problem I having is that I want the user to use an interface to select a card id, and then call that card object to run the appropriate methods with the appropriate data. The question is how can I call the correct object if I donít know which one to call until the user picks a card.

    Iím still in the planning stages, so Iím open to any solution.

    store the outside key name as a property called NAME.

    eg:

    Code:
    {
       a : { val:1, other: false, NAME: "a"}
    }
    now you know the name/path of each object without having access to the surrounding object.

    is that at all what you were asking?
    if not post code and/or elaborate on what you want to do.

    That is a very good point, so let me go with a more complex example of my problem, but first a little background on the game. The placement of all of the cards in the game is tracked via four arrays that correspond to the different places a card can be (deck, hand, in play, and discard). I will commonly need to print out the contents of the hand array in a form the user can work with. Iíd like to loop over each item in the hand array and run a method of the object with the same name that would produce the appropriate td tag. For instance if the array contain 1,2, and 3 I'd like to run card1.largeCard();card2.largeCard();card3.largeCard();.

    Now obviously as the programmer I know that if I have card ID 1 show up in the array I need to run card1.largeCard(); to get the correct tag, the question is how do I tell JavaScript what to do.

    PS: If youíd like to see a working example of the game, albeit a slow one thanks to the constant database calls, click on the following:

    i would have only as many objects as total cards, and move those around between arrays.
    Code:
    function C(n){return {card: n};}//"Card" "constructor"

    stack= [C(11),C(22),C(33),C(44),C(55),C(66),C(77),C(88), C(99)];
    hand=  [];
    discard=[];

    function drawCard(){
     hand.push(stack.pop());
    }

    function discardCard(card){
      var pos=hand.indexOf(card);
       if(pos>-1){ hand.splice(pos, 1);}
       discard.push(card);
    }

    //get 5 cards:
    drawCard();drawCard();drawCard();drawCard();drawCard();

    //toss one back
    discardCard(hand[3]);

    //where are we at?
    alert("stack: "+JSON.stringify(stack,null,"\t"));
    alert("hand: "+JSON.stringify(hand,null,"\t"));
    alert("discard: "+JSON.stringify(discard,null,"\t"));
