    facebook like notification

I'm trying to figure out how to make asynchronous notifications, for example when someone on facebook sends a message to a person, they are instantly notified, as if something told their browser to update itself.

Any ideas on where would be a good place to read up on that?

Use PHP mail() when you have whatever code that you insert the message into your database.

There are many options using comet .

or a full fledged comet server like

Thanks chris, that's sorta what I'm looking for I think. So if I understand correctly, it sends an infinite php request to the server, receiving the notification as soon as the initial notification reaches the database to be accessible?
