variable use

Hey so I am making this fun little side project and I'm not sure how to make this work.

I want to

accept user input in a search bar

take that input and manipulate it

and translate it as a variable into a url, like say: http://website.com/(variable)

I am not sure how to do this. Should I use JavaScript or PHP

Any help is great I know more about C++,Python, and those lanugages than I do about web interactions.
