    Unhappy problem while creating menu button

    this is the menu im trying to build now im confused and cant figure out how to make it. one div (blue arrow) needs negative margin to get outside the box, another div for blue button background and inside the button two another divs or spans for the text colors. but on hover they need to look same (white color).
    i've tried many times to build it but i failed. I get some bugs while loading.

    btw. im working local so i cant give any link.
    hope you understand me because my english is not good.

    thank you all.

    i tried to understand as best i could and this is what i came up with:

    	<style type="text/css">
    		#nav a{font-size: 25px; color: blue; padding: 10px;}
    		#nav a:link{color: blue; text-decoration: none; background-color: tranparent}
    		#nav a:hover{color: blue; text-decoration: none; background-color: transparent}
    		#nav a:active{color: white; text-decorations: none; background-color: blue }
    		ul{list-style-type:none; }
    		li{margin-top: 20px; margin-bottom: 20px}
    	<div id="nav">
    			<li><a href="#">Link 1</a></li>
    			<li><a href="#">Link 2</a></li>
    			<li><a href="#">Link 3</a></li>
    you don't need to provide a link but if you can post your source code like i did it would be very helpful.
