pop up window

Hi, I have seen recently a lot of web sites, when you click on an image, it pops up with a window of the full size of the image with c close button on the upper right conner(a circle with an X in it) Can somone tell how that is do?Is it Javascript?

This is most commonly done these days using things like colorbox, fancybox and others. The ones named are jQuery Lightboxes.

I personally use colorbox a lot more than any others these days. But some urls for you are:
