Plz help , connecting to software

I'm a newcomer to web , and i want to know that is it possible to connect a website to another software ? for example consider a corporation that runs a software for its sales divison , so i want to make my website whenever a person wants to buy something and click on some kind of product , it automatically connects to the software of that corporation and make necessary changes...is it possible? if yes how? tnx

Yes it maybe possible provided there is a way for communicating to your *software* using APIs etc.
