Is a free website a waste of time, if I want to put adverts later on and grow it

Hi, is putting a site on the easy way with free website hosts like wix, wordpress etc a waste of time, if I want to eventually put adverts on and grow it and bring lots of traffic to it, or is it better to learn all the coding etc and try do it myself, the thing is Im useless technically, I cant even get to put the image on my editor. tried everything for weeks now.

If you aren't good at making web pages, then I would do something like WP, or some other tool. If possible, I would get your own domain and install whatever tool you want on it so your domain name isn't a subdomain by default.

From my point of view, better you first buy your own domain and then you add adsense in your site.
