    Jquery not working in IE7

    Any idea why this works everywhere (ff/chrome/ie8-9) but in IE7 - Im using jquery-1.6.2.min.js:

    Code:
    		<script type="text/JavaScript">
    		$(document).ready(function (){
    			$('#buttonslide a').click(function(){
    				var integer = $(this).attr('rel');
    				$('.myslide .cover').animate({left:-800*(parseInt(integer)-1)})
    				$('#buttonslide a').each(function(){
    				$(this).removeClass('active');
    					if($(this).hasClass('button'+integer)){
    						$(this).addClass('active')}
    				});
    			return false;
    			});
    		});
    		</script>
    also using this doctype:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">

    I even try this and nothing (only works without the js above) :

    Code:
    <script type="text/javascript">
            $(document).ready(function() {
                alert("Hello?");
            });
        </script>

    Ugh I think it might be the CSS...might be the z-index.......

    Code:
    .myslide {width:800px;overflow:hidden;position: relative; height:220px; margin-bottom:20px}

    .myslide .cover{
    width:2400px;
    position: absolute;
    height:100%;
    padding-top: 10px;
    line-height: 18px;
    }

    .myslide li a {color: #7E160B;}

    .myslide .feat-cont {width:800px;float:left;}

    .featbutton {position: relative; width: 650px;}

    .button  {position: absolute; right: 7px; top: 10px;  z-index: 9999;}

    .button1,.button2,.button3{background:url('images/dot.png') 0 -16px; padding:6px;display:block;float:left;margin-right:5px;}

    .active{background:url('images/dot.png') 0 -1px; padding:6px;display:block;float:left;outline:none;}

    .clear{clear:both;}

    I don't like giant libraries that tangle up a seemingly functional things with even more things....
