centering text fields

How do I center text fields? I have this as my main container wrapper:

<div style="margin-left:auto; margin-right:auto; width:960px; text-align:center;">

all text text, except the fields, are being centered. how do i change that so that they are?

create a class with text align center and assign it to the fields.

for example:
/* CSS */
.field {
text-align:center;
}
/* End CSS */


< fieldset class="field">

Hm, doesn't seem to work. wondering if it is just my code... is there anything else that I could add to possibly make it work?
