    data-coords attribute - warning

I am trying to validate my website (http://students.uwsp.edu/ntowl795/cn...ect/about.html). It passes the validation test, but there are a few warnings. It is because I am using the "data-coords" attribute, which doesn't exist. When I change "data-coords" to "coords" in the HTML (just 1 of the tags), the whole JavaScript fails, and nothing is displayed.

I tried changing the .js files to use the 'coords' rather than 'data-coords,' but it doesn't matter. The whole JavaScript fails after changing just 1 attribute in the HTML.

Does anyone know why this is? Or how to fix it? It isn't a huge deal, but I would like to get rid of the warnings, if possible. Thank you very much.

Custom attributes (ie. 'data-???') are apparently a relatively recent addition to HTML 5, so the validator may not yet be aware of them. If it is aware of them, it may be issuing a warning just to let you know of them in case you've made a mistake. In any case, the warnings are nothing to worry about here.
