Is there an equivalent Alert but to a file?

I am testing some jQuery that inserts HTML and I want to get get the text in a format that can be put into a text editor. Currently the Alert() displays the text but it cannot be copied/selected.

    Suggestions are welcomed...

    Many thanks,
    Todd

using javascript, you can write to a file with the MS file scripting object, but only using IE and only with the user's permission, etc.

is outputting the text to a text area and copying it from there out of the question?

Using console.log solved it for me.

    Many thanks...
