    Odd summation, else, even summation, script help

    Here are the instructions from my instructor:

    Define a function getSum5(arg_n, arg_opt), that if arg_opt is equal to 1, it calculates the sum of odd numbers from 1 to arg_n: 1+3+5+arg_n; if arg_opt is equal to 2, it calculates the sum of even numbers from 1 to arg_n: 2+4+6+ +arg_n.
    Example:
    Input: n=6, opt=2
    Output: 12

    Here is my botched code
    Code:
    <html>
    	<body>
    	<script type="text/javascript">

    	var input1=Number(prompt("Enter an integer:"));

    	document.write("The total even or odd summation value is: ", getsum5(input1));

    	function getsum5(x){

    		var out1 = 0;
    		var out2 = 0;

    		for(count=0; count<=x; count++){
    			if(count%2==1){

    				out1+=count;
    				return out1
    				}
    			else {
    				out2+=count;
    				return out2
    				}
    		}
    		}

    	</script>
    	</body>
    </html>
    Where are my errors? Please help me correct them.

    The proposed function has not two arguments ! Its can't return two values ! Its return a value before to finish the loop !
