Can I use a
or
tag to put a horiztonal line in a
wrap tag???????????

    Hi Everybody! CowGirl Here!

I am in a bit of a pickle and was hoping somebody can help me.

    I have a
tag with lots of
tags inside, and all is good. I am using css so that all the
tags in the
tag have a set padding.

The problem is that I am trying to insert a horizontal line inside this
. I tried taking a
tag and attaching a class to get a horizontal line to appear and it works, but I cannot change the padding because it is set by the
css rule. This is the problem - I want to change the padding for the horizontal rule so that it is different than that set for
by the
rule.

Send an email to your family and friends

Can I replace the horizontal line
tag with a
or
tag, like set out below?

Send an email to your family and friends

I just don't know if you can insert a
or
tags like this.

    Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't follow what you are doing. Why aren't you using the
tag on it's own? In HTML5 you use CSS to style the
width. color, etc. can add other stuff like clear:both.

    A horizontal rule
can be visual break in content.

See. for instance, http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_hr.asp or http://webdesign.about.com/od/beginn.../aa021599a.htm or https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/...TML/Element/hr

When you originally tried to make a
tag which was automatically inheriting the characteristics of all the other
tags the simple answer would be to give it a class that is different from all the others and in your still sheet just give it a padding of 0. If trying to use an
tag the previous reply was 100% correct and you should do what he said.

    Auntnini and Jawaune,

Thank you for taking the time to read and reply to my message.

I knew the problem was the use of a
tag to create a horizontal line. The code was written by an elance contractor and I did not know if he did it that way because you could not / should not place a
tag or
tag in a sequence of
tags.

I assume it is okay to play a
tag in a sequence of
tags and I will do that, like the below:

Send an email to your family and friends

Send an email to your family and friends

    OOPS!
is "empty"

Most HTML tags come in pairs
content
that have an opening tag to define content and then a closing tag </__>. But there are tags that do not define content in between the opening and closing parts. These are therefore called "empty" tags. The
horizontal rule,
line break, image tag (which is like a placeholder that is replaced by image), meta date about doc, and some others I cannot think of are "empty" tags. If you are using XHTML doc type, XML specifies a self-closing for such tags

, otherwise it's just
or
(lowercase of course).

And define your hr in CSS so you don;t have to spell out the details in HTML. You can define "contextual" or more specific CSS style rules for certain sections.

    So you code would be
    CSS:  .new_spread_word_main_body hr { ... }

Send an email to your family and friends

Send an email to your family and friends
