toStaticHTML Function : SEO impact?
Does anyone see a problem with the following code that might have an impact on SEO or the way that google parses our website?
After using this code we noticed a significant drop in traffic and we noticed that google suddenly stopped listing many of the pages on our site and instead began listing the page that we are redirecting to.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
you probably saw a drop because the user experience is poor.
yes, google can follow redirects.
No, that's not it. Though I see where your coming from.
After reviewing google analytics, the traffic drop was ALL from organic search traffic.
Google COMPLETELY changed the way it listed our site in search results.
What is it about this code that might have an impact on the way Google is parsing our site? It caused it to drop almost all the pages that were previously listed and only seems to show the page we are redirecting to.....
google doesn't like redirects, heck, nobody does...
by pointing to the new page, google saves it's users a few HTTP transactions and a little bit of time.
if so, that's two re-directs and i wouldn't be surprised if google's links landed on any particular one of the three actual urls encompassed within...
Ya that makes sense. Google was being sent to a dead-end and unfortunately it had serious repercussions on our search traffic. It literally dropped ALL pages from our site.
I will be sure to avoid redirects in the future. Hopefully it doesn't take too long for google to put us back on the map.
