Some non technical tips for the good website designing.
1. Don't annoy your visitors with pop-up windows.
2. Include a way to get back to the home page, on every page.
3. Include a menu on every page.
4. Don't use frames.
5. Avoid animation/flash and large image files.

On your website, as well as on each individual page, focus on displaying only the 20% of site elements that are delivering 80% of that usefulness.
