Some non technical tips for the good website designing.
1. Don't annoy your visitors with pop-up windows.
2. Include a way to get back to the home page, on every page.
3. Include a menu on every page.
4. Don't use frames.
5. Avoid animation/flash and large image files.
Nice Article about Do's and Dont's of Web Designing..My suggestion is to avoid Flash Content and multimedia since they are not search engine friendly..
Use the 80-20 rule : What 20% of what’s on a page gives 80% of the value and content that people go there for? It could be the copy, some social proof (review snippets, testimonials, media badges), and a signup form or call-to-action button, for example. That’s the 20% right there. On your website, as well as on each individual page, focus on displaying only the 20% of site elements that are delivering 80% of that usefulness.
This is a powerful tool that collects data about the behavior of the website users. It can be otherwise termed as the collating and analyzing the performances of a site process by using the metrics.
