Choosing DB type and programing lang for web site - please help.

Hi All,
I need to choose a language and DB for my project.
I need to build a web site to add data to DB.
also I need fast search and math functions to be done on this DB. DB would be very large.
Could you please help me to choose DB type (or maybe text files better) and what programing language to use?

One of the most famous platforms for web developtment is LAMP platform. That includes Linux as operative system, Apache as web server, Mysql as database and PHP as web server language. You will get a lot of help and information about it (here for example).
