I recommend Android as it is open and offers great user experience than iPhone.

I would like to prefer both if there is no more problem with cost. But I would have problem with cost then I would prefer the Cross-Mobile App Platform Development just by using PhoneGap, Sencha Touch and many other platform.

We are going to post an article on HTMLGoodies in the next couple of days on using Intel's XDK to do HTML5 development. That tool, like others mentioned, let's you use HTML5 and then target any of the mobile platforms. The article we are posting walks you through the first steps of building a basic app. Watch for it in the next few days. I'll try to remember to come back and post a link here. If you really want to target multiple mobile platforms, then HTML5 and JavaScript are a good consideration of massive speed isn't needed.

I was actually just wondering today if it really makes a difference speed wise using phone gap. Even though java and Objective C are native would anyone really notice?

I'm not a Phonegap person. My speculation is that there would be some overhead added to your application by using Phonegap; however, if your application isn't doing anything hardware intensive then it shouldn't have a noticeable impact on performance.

I would like to recommend you to prefer Cross Mobile Platform. I think it will help you to reduce your cost of the development and rapid development.

I am considering getting into developing apps for android/iphone. But first the QUESTION! How hard is it actually? I have heard of kids as young as 9 years old doing it. True? Fake?

So, Im not super smart or anything, but I can understand HTML and CSS. (two big thumbs up right?)

Basically, for your average joe brain, how hard is it going to be for me to learn how to make a simple but fun (if I have a good idea for an app) game or useful app?
