Character encoding

I have <meta charset="utf-8"> written in my code but the w3validater says I have no character encoding set. Furthermore it says I have these errors for that same bit of code which it tells me I don't have:

-end tag for "meta" omitted, but OMITTAG NO was specified

-start tag was here

-required attribute "content" not specified

And it doesn't give me much of an explanation for any of those. What can I do to fix this? Thanks.

Sounds like you are using HTML 5 meta tags with a XHTML document type. This document type requires tags which normally do not have a closing tag to be closed using a space and the symbol /. Example: " <br /> " Same for the meta tag, image tag, etc..

Try:

<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />

Looks like you have made the corrections already.
