    Remember me on web sites

I have seen web sites which require a password to login and they often have a "Remember me" box which when ticked will save you having to enter your password each time.

Is this easy to provide? I have set up the password OK but have had no luck setting up a means of people saving their
passwords. The target audience of the web site tends towards the older age range and may not understand how to set up their browsers to save passwords.

    Any help please?

This normally requires some server-side code to handle sending and receiving of cookies, typically with a pseudo-random session ID that is used to determine who the user is. The cookie can be given an expiration date/time, which could be way in the future, so that the browser always sends it when accessing the same domain (as long as the user does not clear his/her cookies).

Thanks for that NogDog: it sounds as if this is above my level of competence.
