    CSS drop down menu problem

    Hello, I am trying to follow the code from this simple css drop down menu here. I have the code which I am trying to make work with what I have currently. I want the spacing between the listed items for the menu. When I use the code from the website I cannot seem to set the spacing I need.

    The code I have which I want to use below but as soon as I put in everything from the simple menu it just pushes everything together. It's not exactly what I was wanting. I was hoping maybe you can help.

    Code:
    #header {

        float: left;

        height: 168px;

        width: 900px;

        background: #0000ff;

    }

    #header ul {
        list-style-type:none;
        margin: 135px 0px 0px 8px;
    }
    #header li {
        float:left;
        padding: 6px 2px;

    }
    #header ul li a {
        background:#6666FF;
        border: 1px #FFFFFF solid;
        color:#FFFFFF;
        padding: 5px 10px;
        text-decoration:none;
        font-size:0.9em;
    }
    HTML Code

    Code:
    <!DOCTYPE html>
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>CSS Portal - Layout</title>
    <!--[if IE]><script src="http://html5shiv.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/html5.js"></script><![endif]-->
    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="nav.css" />
    </head>
    <body>

            <div id="header">
                <ul id="nav" class="drop">
                <li><a href="#">Home</a></li>
                <li><a href="#">History</a></li>
                <li><a href="#">Clients</a></li>
                <li><a href="#">Testimonials</a></li>
                <li><a href="#">Staff</a></li>
                <li><a href="#">FAQ</a></li>
                <li><a href="#">Products</a></li>
                <li><a href="#">Stock Images</a></li>
                </ul>
            </div>

    </body>

    I wanted to update what I have so far. The only thing I need is I don't want to border on the submenu items. When you hover over the History to expand the menus don't line up either.

    Code:
    #header {

        float: left;
        height: 168px;
        width: 900px;
        background: #0000ff;

    }

    /*#header ul {
        list-style-type:none;
        margin: 135px 0px 0px 8px;
    }*/
    #header li {
        float:left;
        padding: 6px 2px;

    }
    #header ul li a {
        background:#6666FF;
        border: 1px #FFFFFF solid;
        color:#FFFFFF;
        padding: 5px 10px;
        text-decoration:none;
        font-size:0.9em;
    }

    /*---- CROSS BROWSER DROPDOWN MENU ----*/

    ul#nav {margin: 135px 0px 0px 8px; }
    /*ul.drop a { display:block; color: #FFFFFF; text-decoration: none; }*/
    /*ul.drop, ul.drop ul { list-style: none; margin: 0px; padding: 0; border: 1px solid #FFFFFF; background: #6666FF; color: #FFFFFF;}*/
    /*ul.drop li { padding: 0px 0px; }*/
    ul.drop { position: relative; z-index: 597; float: left; }
    ul.drop li { float: left; line-height: 1.3em; vertical-align: middle; zoom: 1; /*padding: 5px 10px;*/ padding: 6px 2px; list-style-type:none; border:0px; }
    ul.drop li.hover, ul.drop li:hover { position: relative; z-index: 599; cursor: default; background: #6666FF; color: #FFFFFF; }
    ul.drop ul { visibility: hidden; position: absolute; top: 100%; left: 0; z-index: 598; width: 195px; background: #6666FF; border: 0px; /*border: 1px solid #FFFFFF;*/ }
    ul.drop ul li { float: none; }
    ul.drop ul ul { top: -2px; left: 100%; }
    ul.drop li:hover > ul { visibility: visible }
