    URL Mapping which redirects user from one url to another after visiting the url, is one type of url redirection.

    For example,

    If user want to visit some particular url/site like abc dot com but when user will visit that particular url, he/she will be redirected to another url like subdomain dot abc dot com.

    To make url SEO friendly and user friendly is the main role of URL Mapping in SEO.

    Where your keywords or products have the exact information about the keywords or products on your website is called the URL mapping.

    Hi
    noahwilson,

    Keyword URL mapping is the process of determining which page of a website should contain certain keywords to maximize the optimization of the entire website as a whole. A lot of times optimization is only directed at the homepage of a website. This is not the best strategy simply because it is impossible for any one page of a website to be top loaded with several keywords. Each page of a website needs to be optimized for only a few keywords for it to have a chance to rank highly for any one keyword phrase search.

    The URL mapping feature in ASP.NET 10.0 is very simple and works by specifying the mapping directly in Web.config.URL Mapping allows portal administrators to create constant user friendly URLs and map them to portal pages.

    URL mapping is a feature new to ASP.NET 2.0 that enables page developers to map one set of URLs to another. If a request comes in for one of the URLs in the first set, it is automatically re-mapped on the server-side.

    The <map> tag is used to define a client-side image-map. An image-map is an image with clickable areas.

    The required name attribute of the <map> element is associated with the <img>'s usemap attribute and creates a relationship between the image and the map.

    The <map> element contains a number of <area> elements, that defines the clickable areas in the image map.

    Example:

    <img src="planets.gif" width="145" height="126" alt="Planets" usemap="#planetmap">

    <map name="planetmap">
    <area shape="rect" coords="0,0,82,126" href="sun.htm" alt="Sun">
    <area shape="circle" coords="90,58,3" href="mercur.htm" alt="Mercury">
    <area shape="circle" coords="124,58,8" href="venus.htm" alt="Venus">
    </map>

    Maintains a consistent URL even if the service is moved to a different TeamForge Lab Management node or different base URL.
