HTML stands for HyperText Markup Language so Markup in this tells the Web browser how to display a Web page's words and images for the user. It determines the look and structure of a text like font type, size and color .

    hi..
Hypertext means machine readable text and Markup means to structure it in a specific format. So,HTML is called hypertext markup language because it is a language that allows users to organize, improve the appearance of, and link text with data on the internet.

HTML defines the structure and layout of a Web document by using a variety of tags and attributes. The HTML syntax is based on a list of tags that describe the page's format and what is displayed on the Web page.

Wonder if the "hyper-text" part has to do with the ability to link to other content, which truly made the WWW (Worldwide Web) so exciting?
