    Hi
Type: www.abc.com in search engine, If the first result is coming regarding to www.abc.com means the website is not penalized, If the other results are coming means the website is penalized.

If your website is penalized you will get message in Google Analytic and webmaster tool. And even you can check by entering your domain of the site in the search engine. If you get site listed in the Google, it means your website is not penalized.

There are 2 types of penalties , one for increase IBL for which they send you an email to your webmaster tools account , and one which is automaticly made by the algorithm , for which you get no notice ! It is impossible to say which Google Algo affected you , the only way is to keep yourself updated and figure it out yourself .
