Wordpress child theme being overriden by parent base.css

I am trying to create a child theme on my wordpress blog and I have followed all the instructions for how to set it up including importing the parent style.css into my new child css. I have activated the child theme and that all went great but for some reason the blog doesnt use my new css even though it is listed under the import of the parent css.

If there is anyone familiar with child themes and wordpress that could help me out that would be great. I am familiar with css but I have not done a lot of wordpress customization so this is all new to me.

I am using the Evolve theme

CEO and Founder of Sport Directions

Not sure if I understood you correctly, but if it's a WP site try to search for the answer in functions.php file. There may be written some properties which override your settings.
