convert string to date format

i have the following string in a textbox genrated through javascript:
"22-Mar-2004"

now i want to enter same in database where my feild type is date/time

i am getting error "Data type Mismatch"
Plz help how can i get this string entered into database where i hve a feild with datatype date/time.
