In a website, when the link points to a web page that has been deleted or moved.
Find broken links to visit this site and enter the home page URL.

    what is broken link/

Link rot is the process by which hyperlinks point to web pages, servers or other resources that have become permanently unavailable. The phrase also describes the effects of failing to update out-of-date web pages that clutter search engine results. A link that does not work any more is called a broken link, dead link or dangling link.
    >The simplest and most common reason is that the website it links to doesn't exist anymore. The most common result of a dead link is a 404 error

Ensuring the correct HTML format of your webpage will prevent your site from broken links.
There are many tools available online to check broken links and that of 404 errors.
" validator.w3.org " is one of the best tool that I have come across.
