Most of the time a high bounce rate is caused by people landing on a page that isn't relevant to what they are searching. So if you are ranking for some weird search terms and the user clicks into your site they will obviously leave.

Other factors you can take a look at are loading times, presentation, browser problems, and who is landing on your page for what terms.. If someone is searching for laundry soap and they land on a dry cleaning company they are going to bounce off the site.

Bounce rate has many reasons, some of them are:

    1. The content is not good enough to make visitor engaged with it for longer time.
    2. The link for the page is not relevant.
    3. Content flow is not proper.
    4. And most of the times, it is because of us, that we went to our website for some thing and instant get back or close the link, after all it is also a visitors activity.

To overcome the major one's, is to use the proper linking, and provide the relevant link or use the relevant key to link to the page.
    Use Good and unique content.

It depends upon the users, if you are getting the right users then they will take time and look for the relevant content and products you are offering which will cost them time and you will get bounce rate. The best way to increase bounce rate is only you should market your product in its niche and go for the right users no matter they are in less numbers but your bounce rate will be better

Its highly depend on your website.

Try to add content that easy to read and let users stay in site add videos or helpful tips users like it most. Give them something free that attract them and let them stay in site.

Your content should be unique and according to the keyword research. If your content is copied or irrelevant from the searches this caus es high bounce rates. Make your website updated regularly with latest content. Latest content always attract people which reduces the bounce rate.

Bounce rate is simply the number of users who enter you site at a specific page and then leave without accessing any other pages.

Therefore bounce rate is entirely dependent on your website and what you are offering. Do you want people to visit other pages in the website.

For example, I've just started on a new project (which can be found here: Online Css Minifer) eventually this site will have lots of individual pages, each offering a different tool. Thus I'm expecting a high bounce rate and this isn't really of concern to me.

Do you have any more details about the contents/structure of your website? I know a high bounce rate can look bad but it might not be the end of the world.
