Link to a file Not Read Only

I would like to request some help from the experts out there. This is my problem.
I want to create a link to a excel file. The url behind the code is in the form:
    Code:
    <a href=/somefolder/file.xls target=_blank> Open File.xls</ a>
The website displays the url as:
    Code:
    http://site.com/somefolder/file.xls
The problem is that the file opens in “read only” mode. How can that be change?
Thank you all in advance for your help.

    A little more info.
The file is in shared folder, the folder structure is:
    Code:
    \\server\website\index.aspx
    \\server\website\somefolder\
    \\server\website\somefolder\file.xls
    When I use:
    Code:
    <a href=\\server\website\somefolder\file.xls target=_blank> Open File.xls</ a>
The file opens fine... but it takes a really long time to open, on the other hand when I change the link to:
    Code:
    <a href=/somefolder/file.xls target=_blank> Open File.xls</ a>
The file opens way faster but in read only mode.

Open excel file on your computer and use 'save as' to save the file with a different name. In Save As dialog box look for appropriate option to turn off the read only mode.

    it is problem there
when you open file as http://site.com/somefolder/file.xls
you open file from your website and you will not be able to save file, becouse excel in local computer does not have access to write a file in webserver folder it is web protection.
when you open file as \\server\website\somefolder\file.xls it is open file from network drive and it is reason why it os slow, and I'm pretty sure it may (if you configurred permissions) give you abbility to save file only as long you on local network and not let you even view file in you outside the office...

When you click the link the file will open to download, so the person will receive the file like you had saved its in your computer. So you need to save the file in the open mode, not in the "read only mode"
