well meta tag is broadly categories in to three parts: meta title, meta keywords and meta description. the description is use to show more information about the content of the page, a keyword is a term that a person enters into a search engine to find specific information and last but not the least meta title, a good title should include keywords and it’s best to use these keywords in the beginning of the title. Keep the title under 70 characters and don't forget to include keywords in your title.

A meta tag is a tag (that is, a coding statement) in the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) that describes some aspect of the contents of a Web page. The information that you provide in a meta tag is used by search engines to index a page so that someone searching for the kind of information the page contains will be able to find it. The meta tag is placed near the top of the HTML in a Web page as part of the heading.

Meta tags are used in HTML or XHTML documents to provide structured metadata about a Web page. Multiple Meta elements with different attributes can be used on the same page. Google uses these meta tags to give results to the user. Meta tags are placed in the head of the html.

Meta tags have to be placed in the HEAD part of the website. Then add a title, keywords and a description of your site.
