Website Design Help - Looking for learning resources/guidance.

    Hi,

I have built rather basic websites in the past for small enterprises that I have been involved in but these were by no stretch of the imagination great websites.

I am looking to learn how to do it properly and would welcome any information or links to books/video tutorials I could use to help my learning curve.

I have Dreamweaver and Photoshop on my computer so that is what I am looking to use unless anyone can suggest an alternative.

I am looking to design a website that allows customers to sign up online so they all have an account which they can access. As with a lot of websites I would hope to give clients email addresses so that clients can send each other messages through the website and not have to use personal email etc.

I would also require a function whereby clients could trade items between each other using the website. So for instance User 1 could offer an item to User 2 in exchange for either money or some other service.

I hope that is sufficiently clear to allow you to point me in the direction I need to go. I am happy to read through textbooks or watch tutorials but I am unsure as to what I should be looking at in order to provide everything I need in the simplest of ways.

    Many thanks in advance

Wow, thanks to priyankagound and Major Payne a lot of information there for me to get started, much appreciated.

If anyone has any other resources that have helped them I would equally appreciate any further input, I am conscious of what priyankagound said above that I wont learn everything I need/want from just one source so I am keen to read as much as possible from all sources.

    Thanks again

If you're looking for a free resource then w3schools.com is the best bet. As far as book is concerned, I think you should have a copy of The Web Book - Build Static and Dynamic Websites. This book answers almost every question you've asked.
