I got the basis for a carousel that does almost exactly what I need:
http://tympanus.net/codrops/2011/08/...tent-carousel/

But it doesn't auto-play, which was resolved in the comments by adding this code to the mouse-events area of the jquery.contentcarousel.js file:

Code:
var autoscroll = setInterval(function(){
	if( cache.isAnimating ) return false;
	cache.isAnimating = true;
	aux.navigate( 1, $el, $wrapper, settings, cache );
},5000);
// If you hover over a .ca-wrapper, pause the auto-scroll
$(this).find('.ca-wrapper').hover(function(){
	autoscroll = clearInterval(autoscroll);
},function(){
	var autoscroll = setInterval(function(){
		if( cache.isAnimating ) return false;
		cache.isAnimating = true;
		aux.navigate( 1, $el, $wrapper, settings, cache );
	},5000);
});
What I need is for it to STOP auto-scrolling if one of the options is expanded or if someone clicks on any of the squares of content or if someone clicks either of the manual navigation buttons. It should switch to manual-scroll-only at that point until the page is refreshed.

The auto-plat is meant as a "preview" for the site I'm working on, so that the user knows there is more content to be seen and so that none of the content is "left out" by not scrolling automatically.

I would also love any insights you might pick up as to how the number of displayed options can be changed, such as to help me make it responsive.
