The Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology is searching for a full-time Web Development Specialist to join its collaborative communications team. The Web Development Specialist plans, designs, and produces web sites promoting the research done at this multidisciplinary research institute located on the campus of the University of Illinois. In addition to outreach to the campus, funding agencies, and the general public, the Beckman Institute web site is a resource for facility users, faculty, and staff. The position also manages the in-house digital signage for the Institute.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Responsible for applying current technologies to improve the functionality, appearance, and accessibility of the Beckman Institute web sites.
Design, develop, and manage Institute web sites, both internal and public facing.
Work independently to create dynamic web pages and web-based electronic forms utilizing advanced web-related languages and techniques.
Demonstrate fresh solutions in web development, design, accessibility, and usability.
Responsible for analyzing and evaluating website traffic reports and analytics.
Work with Institute communications team members, which include a communications director, writer, and videographer.
Collaborate with other IT professionals to maintain, improve, and expand database-driven web sites and web applications.
Coordinate web site planning, design, and production of group and event websites for Beckman facilities and research groups.
Responsible for content on Beckman web pages.
Responsible for programming of and producing content for Beckman Institute digital signage using Four Winds Interactive software.
Bachelorís degree in Computer Science, Web Development, or related field; other degree fields may be considered if accompanied by applicable experience.
Two years of experience designing and developing web sites.
Proficient to expert level understanding of core front-end web technologies (HTML/CSS).
Familiarity with common desktop and mobile operating systems.
Awareness of current visual and interaction design best practices, trends, techniques, and usability principles.
Knowledge of web accessibility standards.
Ability to handle multiple priorities.
Strong written and verbal skills
Experience working effectively in a team environment
Three or more years of experience programming and web site development.
Familiarity with user testing across multiple platforms and browsers.
Experience with the selection, installation, and maintenance of back-end content management systems.
Familiarity with University of Illinois WebTools, research communications, and/or the Urbana campus.
The Web Development Specialist is a full-time, benefits-eligible Academic Professional position. Salary is commensurate with skills and experience and candidates must be eligible to work in the United States.
