    Starting in Web Development!

    Hello all,

I have a background with basic IT helpdesk and am looking to dive into web dev. So besides HTML 5 what other reccomended languages should I learn that would be valuable? I am looking to self study since I can not find the time to cash to go to school again.

If you want to do client-side (browser) stuff, at a minimum you must know HTML, CSS, and JavaScript (along with the JQuery JavaScript library).

If you want to do server-side stuff, you need a good grasp of database design and SQL, along with whatever programming languages you expect to use (PHP, Ruby, JSP, various .NET, etc.), with a bonus being familiarity with the most popular web framework(s) used with the selected language(s).
